This old dance mask from Vokeo Island, one of the Schouten Islands that lie off of New Guinea's north coast, is unusual for having the cane superstructure still intact. Such masks are called "lewa" on Vokeo and represent the ancestral spirit "tangbal." This example has an old encrusted patina and some remains of color around eyes. The mask is 37" in height, dates to the early/mid 20th century and sells for $6500. Questions?
