This powerful mask comes from the coastal area between the Sepik and Ramu Rivers. It was collected by Barry Hoare in the 1960s and has since been in the collection of George Craig and on display in his Marineland Melanesia Museum on Green Island. The mask has a combination of traditional and western red pigments, shell eyes, shell decoration through the nose and a beautifully carved lizard on the forehead. The piece has a good old patina on the reverse. The mask is 21" in height. sold
