This is a rare wood trumpet from the Green River area of the far Upper Sepik region. It comes from the collection of jockey/dealer Billy Pearson. Such trumpets were blown after a successful tribal fight to alert their home village of the warriors' success. This has a nice incised design, good remains of pigments, a few age cracks coming up from the base, is 20" in length and sells for $800. Questions?
