This is an old and striking fighting shield from the Mendi area of Papua New Guinea's Southern Highlands. It was purchased in Australia from an antique shop in the 1980s and has been in an American artist's collection ever since. You can see from the reverse the piece has a solid aged patina that would date the shield to the 1930s. The piece is 48 ¾" in height. sold
