This beautiful object is a Southern Abelam lightwood headdress called a "notu" from Ugutagwa Village. The faces represented are the ancestral spirits of the man would wear the notu on the back of his head. The pigments are dry, powdered-type and traditional. Notice the age around the rectangular cut out handle. The piece is 31" in height, has a great visual impact, dates to the 1930/40s. sold
