The oldest wood bowls from the Huon Gulf have a distinct shape and style to them. The have straight, vertical sides, they are deep with substantial volumes and have ends that are blunter than the more pointed ends of recent bowls. The present bowl is a great, ancient one with all these traits as well as two classic ancestral faces on the ends. The overall patina is glossy over encrusted. The bowl is large at 37 ½" in height, is 19th century. sold
