This drum is unusual in that it comes from a remote area well to the west in the Torricelli Mountains in Papua New Guinea’s West Sepik Province. It is also unusual for being very, very old and with a distinctly realistic figurative style. There are clear representations of a cassowary, a fish and another bird carved in high relief on the drum’s side. I would date the piece to around 1900. sold
