This is a rare Massim figure collected by my brother Greg on the remote Goodenough Island. It has the classic early Massim figurative style and squatting knees to elbows composition. There is obvious age and field use to the piece but its exact function is unknown—it is unusual for being completely hollow. I have consulted the Massim expert Harry Beran with regards to the figure and he agrees that this is not a made-for-sale piece but is at a loss of its exact use. Either way, it is obviously old, authentic and a nice piece of Massim figurative sculpture—of which there are very few. The figure is 12 ½” in height. sold
