This is a rare shell crown from Tahiti. It consists of hundreds of small shells sewn onto a round fiber core. This example is late 19th century and was formerly in the collection of the silent film star Tom Mix. There was a loose strand of shells that had to be retied and thus there is a small section at the bottom that has been restrung. The crown is 9 3/8" in diameter. sold
