I collected this particular Abelam baba helmet mask very early on in my field collecting career. It is a nice older example made from coiled cane. It is very tightly done with generations of use as evidenced by the thick layers of pigments. It is unusual for having a large nail pointing menacingly straight out of its face-and I remember it having little bunches of barbed wire on the face as well but in its voyage to California and its other journeys this last twelve years these have become lost. The mask is 17" in length, dates to the 1930/40s. sold
