In the Lumi area of the Torricelli Mountains in Papua New Guinea's West Sepik Province bride price is paid with small tridacna clam shell currency rings. The clam shells come from the islands off of Aitape while the rings are made by the villagers living on the northern slopes of the mountain range and traded down, inland, to the Lumi people. When bringing a group of rings for bride price the rings are sometimes lashed in an artful way to a stick for a more impressive presentation. This "stick ring" as they are called locally is quite old and has a handy strap intact for easy carrying. The piece is full of old clam shell rings, is 29 ½" in height and sells for $3800. sold
