This striking shield is from the Mendi area of Papua New Guinea's Southern Highlands Province. The colors are still very bold while the shield itself is a nice older example with a dark, hard, aged patina on the reverse-beware of Mendi shields with thicker, gummier surfaces as these are now being made for sale.
