This old figure is a classic Nogwi female from the Washkuk area north of the Middle Sepik River. Nogwi were used in the final stage in the nearly life-long initiation process of Nukuma men. While this figure has several deep wounds from erosion, insects and age it is still strong and stable. The nose and ears are pierced and shows good wear and ritual use. It was collected in the early 1960s and comes from the collection of George Craig. She is 35" in height. sold
