This is a old and unusual Abelam carving of a hornbill used to adorn the façade or interior of a ceremonial house. Most Abelam hornbill figures are rather flat and two-dimensional but this one has robust volumes, good age and strong remaining pigments. The hornbill is 31 ½" in height and sells for $3000.
