Oceanic Art - Image Enlargement
This is an elegant, old and rare clay pot from Penang Village at the base of the southern slopes of the Torricelli Mountains right at the border with East and West Sepik Provinces. This one is published in my latest catalog "The Art of West Sepik" on pages 34/35. The simple meandering lines in relief on the edge is known locally as the "nungul blep" or broken ear design. The pot is 13" in diameter, dates to the early 20th century and sells for $1000. sold
