This ancient piece is a food pounder from Kaup Lagoon, just west of the Murik Lakes at the mouth of the Sepik River. The piece has Janus ancestral faces, upraised arms and a beautiful black glossy patina from generations of use. One of the arms was missing when collected and I had it restored. The piece is 15 ¾" in height, is late 19th century. sold
