These four pieces are the figurative sections cut from the tip of fighting spears from the Schouten Islands and the coastal areas to their south. Often on old fighting spears an ancestral face or figure was carved near the tip where the bamboo blade was lashed. These are carved from the dense and very hard black palm wood. All four of these are very old and date to the early 20th century or before. The fragments range in size from 7" to 10" in length, are individually mounted. sold
