This is an excellent and unusual Western Australian woomera or spear-thrower. The piece has the classic Western Australian cross-hatching design on one side but on the other is a beautifully composed serpent carved in high relief. The piece was collected by Ron Gibson in the 1920s on Hammersley Station in the Hammersley Ranges in the Kimberly area of Western Australia. The woomera is 25 ¾" in height and sells for $4000.
