This is a fine and classic female "lewa" mask from Vokeo Island. While the lewa masking tradition comes from Vokeo this mask was field collected on the mainland at Wom village. The piece shows good age, nice remains of pigments and a well-used bite stick on the reverse. You can see the waxy material around the eyes and mouth where red seeds would have been attached. The lewa mask is 17 ¾" in height, dates to around 1940. sold
