This stout figure is a good, old Central Abelam "nggwalndu" male ancestor. Such pieces represented ancestral spirits of central importance to the well-being of the clan-for success in the gardens, out in the bush hunting and on the battlefield. This piece is carved from a medium-density wood and has a pleasing overly large head. The colors are strong and striking. The nose and ears are pierced indicating a pre-1940 date of origin. The figure is 52 ½" in height. sold
