This old rainforest shield comes from the northeast Queensland area around Cairns and Port Douglas. Carved from the roots of native fig trees the shields were said to be given to recently initiated young men to paint as a sign of their new status. This example is a very old one with a beautifully aged and muted design in yellow and red ochre. The handle on the reverse shows significant use. The shield is 39 ½" in height and the price is available upon request.Questions?
