The lime spatulas of Collingwood Bay are far rarer than the ones from their eastern Neighbors, the Massim. And at first glance this large and old lime spatula may look like a classic Massim "clapper" style example (clappers have a split top that make a "clapping" sound when thwacked against one’s thigh). But this is not a Massim clapper. If one studies the subtle differences one can see the archaic and less predictable Collingwood Bay motifs—the double scrolls, hash marks and triangular designs are cruder, less accomplished but somehow more refreshing than the studied precision of Massim material. And spatulas such as this have a distinct historical significance in confirming the trade of spatula design between these distinctly different cultures. This spatula is 16 3/8" in height, has the smoothness and glossy patina of a late 19th century piece and sells for $2400. Questions?
