This is a powerful cane helmet mask from the southern Abelam people. These masks are constructed with coiled cane and are called "bapa kumbu" or "bapa tagwa" locally. This one has an unusual wedge-shaped face, nice pigments and nice remains of bird feathers. The piece has good age, is 16" in height, about 18" wide, dates to around 1930. sold
