This is a large and supple tapa cloth from Collingwood Bay, Oro Province, Papua New Guinea. Such soft, wide examples were often used as blankets and given during bride price payments—and kept as heirlooms to pass down from mother to daughter. This example has an older, atypical design , dates to the mid 20th century, is 60" by 45" and sells for $1400. Questions?
