This fun piece is a yam headdress made of coiled cane from the Abelam people of Papua New Guinea’s Prince Alexander Mountains. The piece would have adorned a large ritually-grown long yam during public display and exchange. This one is quite special with an engaging ancestral face with wide open smile. The piece has nice open work and remains of red, black, white and traces of blue pigments. The headdress is 18 ½" in height, dates to the 1940s. sold
