This is a rare form of coiled yam mask with chain beard from the northwest Abelam area near Kuminibus Village. I have also seen this type of mask worn on the back of a tall headdress worn by newly initiated young men. This example has great age with a thick ancient patina over remains of natural pigments, it is 14" including cane chains, dates to the 1930's. sold
