Oceanic Art - Image Enlargement
This whimsical little guy is a Papuan Gulf imunu figure probably from Goaribari Island. Like all imunu it is carved from a naturally formed tree branch. This one has a nicely carved face with a raised nose and wonderfully vibrant red pigments. The piece was collected by George Craig in the early 1960s and dates to several decades before that.
