This ancient piece is a classic pre-contact Karawari River figure. This example is of a rare but well documented type where the body is a large, sturdy post with a central void where magical substances would have been placed. This carving is unique in that it still has the ritual bone hung on the back showing signs of magical scrapping. The hook on the top shows signs of an early native repair.
