Prehistoric stone artifacts from New Guinea are quite rare. While I cannot say exactly where this pestle originates I have seen similar both in West New Britain and the Schrader Mountain Range in Madang Province. The piece is from a very hard and heavy stone, the surface is smooth and the flared base is quite nice. The pestle is 10" in height and sells for $1400. Questions?
