This large dog tooth pectoral probably comes from the coastal area at the mouth of the Ramu River. These were worn as items of prestige and were consider a wealth object to be exchanged. This example is both very large and very fine with an odd assortment of attachments meant to enhance the value and aesthetics of the piece-note the little lengths of metal chain.
