This old food pounder comes from the Torricelli Mountains in Papua New Guinea's West Sepik Province. It was used to mash yams and taro. The top is a well-executed hornbill bird. The pounder has great age and a wonderful glossy patina from generations of use. It is 23 ¼" in height, dates to the early 20th century. sold
