On Vokeo Island, the largest of the Schouten Islands, they have a type of hand drum, "kundu" that is small with a narrow waist and well rounded top and bottom. This present example is very, very old and one of the most refined I have come across. The bands of relief carving have left circular shapes with pleasing irregularities. The patina is dark glossy brown/black where it has not been painted red. The drum is late 19th century, stands 17 ½" in height. sold
