This funky fish comes from the remote area near Angugunak Village in the West Sepik Province. The fish was used in a "devil fish" ritual that might be related to the ceremony of the same name in the neighboring Lumi area—although the Lumi devil fish is distinctly not so overtly fish-like. This fish has striking colors and an inventive use of materials— the main body is solid wood while the fins are both wood and some an obviously western paper or pressboard material. The piece is 44" in length. sold
