This small and charming yena figure comes from the Washkuk area, probably the Nukuma culture up towards Amaki Village on the Sanchi River. Carved from a hardwood the yena displays all the proper signs of an older, well-used example. The nose and ears have been pierced, there are layers of pigments and remains of feathers on the mouth and chin indicating a long ceremonial life. This piece is unusual for its somewhat diminutive size, the ring pattern of paint on the post and especially the long pointed projections coming down from the back of the face. The yena is 26 ½" in height, dates to the 1940s, comes with a custom display mount. sold
