This is a pair of elegant garamut (slit gong drum in New Guinea) beaters from the Middle Sepik River area of Papua New Guinea. They are ancient, pre-contact with wonderfully worn and grooved shafts from generations of handling. The tops are vaguely zoomorphic. The patina is smooth and glossy. They are 20" in height, 19th century and sell as a pair for $3400. Questions?
