This is a set of three old and large lime spatulas from Collingwood Bay in Papua New Guinea’s Oro Province. Lime spatulas here were one of the most important pieces of material culture for this area. Large ones as these were the prerogatives of chiefs and were considered scepter of office. They had magical powers and were not mere utilitarian objects. They were passed down from chiefs to their sons and grandsons as family heirlooms. These three are very fine and have substantial age and wear. They are all pre-1920, the range in size from 17 ½" to 20 ½" in height. sold
